Patient Admission Information

We know that dropping your pet off at the vet for a surgery or procedure can be daunting. We aim to make it as smooth as possible. Here a few helpful things to remember on the day.

General

Please ensure your pet is reasonably clean and dry on the day of surgery to reduce the risk of infection. Remembering that your pet may not be washed for up to 3 weeks after their operation. If you want to wash them before surgery make sure they have at least 24 hours to dry.

Fasting

Any patient that is going to be under sedation or general anaesthesia will need to be fasted. Please do NOT feed your dog or cat any food after 9:00 pm the evening before surgery. You can leave water available until they come into hospital.

If your animal is less than 4kg, diabetic or on long term medication, please consult with one of our vets to obtain specific instructions regarding fasting and/or medication administration.

Rabbits and guinea pigs must NOT be fasted.

Admission Appointment

Please bring your pet into the hospital at your assigned time, this will be between 8:30 and 9:30am.

Allow 10 to 15 minutes for the admission appointment. During this time, our surgery nurse will run through the details of the procedure being performed, confirm costs and answer any questions.

Please bring in any medications your pet is currently taking, as well as any pet insurance claim forms if applicable.

Discharge Appointment

Once your pet is in recovery, following their procedure, a member of our team will contact you to arrange a discharge time. Upon discharge, your vet or vet nurse will go through all the important aftercare information for your pet.

If you have any concerns after you have gone home with your pet, please call us.
